SRR Fast Track Program – Kingston, Jamaica:
The program will provide students (ages six (6) through eighteen (18) with a school-based, safe, structured, and resourceful after-school environment for which to spend a minimum of two afternoons per week, and for select participants, as they strive to increase their proficiency in education and in sports.  The program’s fundamental focus will be “Literacy and Numeracy through Sports,” the pillar upon which the program was founded.  The program will offer students the ability to increase their literacy and numeracy skills, refine their athletic talents, and gain access to books, computer programs, and exposure to the arts.

Program Summary:

  • 3 schools
  • 70 students per school (210 total)
  • 5 teachers per school (total of 15, 14:1 student to teacher ratio)
  • 20 weeks
  • 2 days per week
  • 2 hours per day (55 minutes reading, 55 minutes athletics – with embedded numeracy skills instruction, 10 minutes snack)
  • Snacks provided daily
  • All books, supplies, program t-shirts, incentives, and athletic equipment provided
  • Personal interaction with Olympic Gold Medalist Sanya Richards-Ross

 

 

 


Finish Strong with Sanya Richards-Ross – United States:
Citing a shortfall of funding in public education to offer afterschool or weekend tutoring services the three months prior to state testing, Finish Strong with SRR will provide $17,500 to select schools to implement a series of sports-themed standardized test based tutoring sessions to 100 students per school.  Schools will be notified of the opportunity for funding and will submit proposals to G.O.A.L. for selection by a committee of individuals in the non-profit organization in conjunction with Olympic Gold Medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and her team.  Schools will receive $17,500 and a computer based pre/posttest to gauge results of the sessions.  Funds must be used for a minimum of eight teachers who must be present at each tutoring session, snacks, and supplies/materials. 
Program t-shirts will be provided.  Tutors are expected to be paid their hourly-rate consistent with local union collective bargaining rules.

    #GraduationStrong Scholarship Fund

    #GraduationStrong is offering five (5) $500 - $1,000 scholarships (amount will depend on availability) to high school graduates of the Class of 2016.  To be considered, students must graduate from high school and get accepted into a post-secondary institution.  The funds will be distributed to the institution of the student’s choice to be used as they deem necessary.

    #GraduationStrong Mentoring Initiative - College Students Mentoring High School Students for College Credits – Estimated Cost for 50 Mentor/Mentee Matches = $32,500



    #GraduationStrong Educator Institute – Two or Three-day training designed to empower teachers, school counselors, and administrators to adapt their educational practices to embrace and emphasize dropout prevention skills and strategies, cultural sensitivity training, methods for promoting positive behavior in the classroom, and analyzing data points as early warning indicators – Estimated Cost for 100 instructors = $75,000 (including $500 stipends per instructor)



    #GraduationStrong Parent Institute – Two-day training designed to equip parents with strategies to motivate and educationally advocate for and support their children through their K-12 education.  This institute will focus on keeping parents engaged with their children through their K-12 education and discuss the importance of each stage of schooling and the value of continuing their education, equipping them with hard facts to help motivate their young ones – Estimated Cost for 100 parents = $45,000 (includes $250 stipends per parent)
